So instead of trying to teach the same material again, Family Camp’s unique nutrition education program focuses on what’s actually necessary for weight loss and weight control.
And we make sure that you can put that information to good use through our unique Culinary Program.


Culinary Program
All parents and campers have hands-on opportunities to learn to cook easy, delicious and healthy meals while at Family Camp. One of the unique advantages of Family Camp is that campers have daily access to the 4-star Pinehurst Resort chefs, who are happy to discuss the challenges and triumphs they have faced in transitioning to a low-fat kitchen.
After going on a grocery store "treasure hunt" to find healthy versions of beloved family foods, Family Camp provides step-by-step instructions on how to prepare Family Camp meals that can be easily replicated at home.

The Family Camp’s nutrition and culinary education program helps campers and parents understand:
- Understanding the difference between fad diets and. scientifically-based weight loss plans
- Identifying weight loss gimmicks and the individuals who take undue advantage of medical credentials to sell them
- Science of weight gain – why it’s so easy to gain, and so hard to lose
- Biological factors related to weight gain and weight loss
- Scientific research regarding successful long-term weight control
- Dissecting fad diets – finding some kernels of science, but mostly empty promises
- Restaurant training – training on ordering in restaurants followed by a trip to a restaurant
- Grocery store training – activities and exercises in grocery stores
- Healthy meal planning for busy families
