Frequently Asked Questions

My child is a bit heavy for her age and height, but she is still very young. Will attending Family Camp help create healthy habits, or will it negatively reinforce her perception of being overweight?

Family Camp is a celebration of the active and healthy lifestyle. Campers at Family Camp aren’t identified as overweight. Rather, all participants – staff, parents and children – are “athletes in training.” By “athletes” we mean that we are attempting to improve and maintain fitness in the face on an environment that makes it very hard to do so. The training consists of learning to love being active, as well as more specific skills that Wellspring teaches. This way, the weight will come off and stay off after campers return home. And campers won’t identify themselves as overweight. Rather, they are athletes.

What is included in Family Camp tuition?

Tuition includes accommodation for up to 4 family members in one room.  An additional room for children may be arranged for an additional charge.  Tuition also includes all scheduled Wellspring meals and snacks.  Other meals, snacks and any alcoholic beverages are not included.  Finally, tuition includes all Wellspring activities, including access to the driving range, putting green, fitness center (with Wellspring personal trainer supervision), Lake Pinehurst and Pinehurst Beach Club, bicycle rental, lawn sports, all sports, games and classes, including culinary classes.  Tuition does not include greens fees, tennis or spa treatments.

My child is old enough to attend Wellspring Adventure Camp North Carolina. Should she attend Family Camp with me, or should I send her to the Adventure program?

If your child is old enough to attend Wellspring Adventure Camp North Carolina (at least 11), you may be deciding between the two programs.
In general, if your child is a relatively independent 11-14, Wellspring recommends the Adventure Camp. If your child would benefit from your complete support, and you can take the time to be with your child for a week, then Family Camp is a better bet.
